Curriculum Vitae Frank Giebels

Frank Giebels was born on April 22nd 1963 in Heerlen, The Netherlands. At the very early age of 5 he taught himself to play the piano. From the beginning of the 70’s he studied piano with several teachers and started to write his own music.

Between 1980 and 1984 he studied Classical Piano with the Hungarian Concert Pianist Hedi Schneider at the Royal Conservatory of Maastricht. After finishing this study he continued to study Jazz Piano with Irv Rochlin and Rob van Kreeveld at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague which he finished in 1987.

In the early 80’s Frank Giebels won the 2nd prize in the Pall Mall Jazz Awards as well as the 2nd prize in the international Michel Legrand Piano Awards in Paris.

His interesting career began immediately with concerts in the USA and Europe together with famous musicians such as Joe LaBarbera (last drummer of Bill Evans), Jeff Hamilton, Ray Pizzi (Madonna), Sam Most, Conte Candoli (Supersax), Carl Saunders, a.m.m.

He decided to share his experience and started to teach jazz piano at the Royal Conservatory of Maastricht in 1988 and still teaches there now. The last few years, he also worked on his own compositions in various musical styles and got into producing and mastering. This year two CD publications are planned.

The success of his CD “Science Friction” published in 1993 gave him the opportunity to stay in the USA for almost a year and play at legendary places such as the “Jazz Bakery” and “Boardners”.

03/1992 workshop with Don Williams and Chiz Harris with music of John Williams \ (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Schindler’s list)

1993 stay in LA, recording of the CD “Science Friction” with Chiz Harris on drums and Jaques Schols on bass

1995 Tour around the west coast of the USA. Fabulous reviews by the music-press after concerts at the famous Jazz Clubs

1998 Big Band Project with Bill Holman (one of the great Jazz Arrangers) with CD recording

2004 Concert with two of his own works for piano and symphonic orchestra at the Theater a/h Vrijthof, Maastricht

Currently Frank Giebels is concentrating on two productions, one Jazz CD with piano trio and an inventive production in the field of Electro Dance.
